From Optics to Art
Dutch’s journey began in photography and invention - building lighting tools, designing optical devices, and engineering solutions. As he evolved his practice over years of experimentation, he began to bring those technical elements into his artwork.
His pieces hover between painting and sculpture, combining handmade optics, polymer films, acrylics, and resin to create compositions that feel both engineered and alive.

Inside each Lucite-box composition, light is shaped, bent, sculpted - appearing as a solid element while remaining ephemeral. The materials collected from his past photography studio become tools to challenge the boundary between object and aura. Influenced by California’s Light and Space movement, Finish Fetish aesthetics, and Op art, his works shift subtly with ambient light and viewer movement. They invite introspection, revealing the delicate balance between visual illusion and emotional resonance.
