Engineering Reality and Imagination Through Photography
Max Steven Grossman was born in Barranquilla, Colombia in 1971. He originally studied engineering and graduated from the University of Philadelphia in 1994. Soon after he discovered his passion in life for photography. In 2000, Max Steven graduated from New York University and the International Center of Photography with a Master of Arts specializing in photography.
The two diverse studies of engineering and the arts have helped to mold the creative photography of Grossman into a study of reality and imagination. In his photographic series of "Bookscapes" the assembled libraries only exist in his photographs. From photos of different bookshelves, he reorganizes them into a creative digital composition of a new thematic "Bookscape".
Bookscapes: shelves that come to life
Transforming Reality Through Imaginative Photography
Max Steven Grossman's photography invites viewers into a personal journey, with themes like Film, Rock and Roll, Fashion, and Architecture. His "Bookscapes" series reorganizes bookshelves into imaginative digital compositions, while his "Seascapes" blend familiar beach scenes with unexpected elements, like semi-trucks or dilapidated buildings.
These creative juxtapositions challenge our perception, making the unlikely appear perfectly normal. Grossman's work has been exhibited globally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in Colombia and international art fairs in Miami, Los Angeles, Spain, Hong Kong, and Argentina.
"My 'Bookscapes' series explores the shifting boundaries between the physical and digital worlds. Through large-scale photographic collages of books, I evoke the fading allure of traditional libraries and the enduring power of books to spark imagination and escape in an age of overwhelming digital visibility."
