From Street Culture to Contemporary Art

Lefebvre’s visual language was shaped early by graffiti, street culture, and the instinctive need to create. After moving from France to the United States at a young age, art became both a form of expression and a way of navigating a new environment. His path later led to nearly two decades working alongside Thierry Guetta during the rise of Mr. Brainwash, an experience that placed him inside one of contemporary pop art’s most recognizable creative worlds. Behind the scenes, Lefebvre continued developing a language of his own, eventually moving beyond the street into a broader practice rooted in sculpture, light, installation, and immersive visual experiences.

Transformation Made Visible

At the centre of Punkmetender is the idea of metamorphosis. The butterfly became a defining symbol in Lefebvre’s work after he created his first three dimensional butterfly mural in 2017. For him, it represents more than beauty. It carries ideas of survival, freedom, fragility, movement, and rebirth. His sculptural and LED works shift with light and atmosphere, changing as the viewer moves around them. The result is work that exists somewhere between painting, sculpture, and installation, with each piece revealing a different presence depending on how it is seen. That tension between delicacy and impact is what makes Punkmetender’s work so compelling. Something visually beautiful at first glance becomes, on closer inspection, a meditation on change, resilience, and the possibility of becoming something new.
