Hidden Styles

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and now working between Mexico and southern Chile, Rosalba Torres brings an architect’s understanding of structure, proportion, and space to contemporary textile art.

Since 2019, she has explored thread as a sculptural language - using fiber not simply as a surface, but as a material capable of creating volume, tension, movement, and form.

Tradition, Reimagined

Working through meticulous processes of thread wrapping, micro-macramé weaving, and embroidery, Torres transforms cotton, acrylic fibers, and copper into intricate organic and architectural forms.

Her time coordinating the decorative textile area at Azulik in Tulum brought her into close collaboration with Maya artisans, deepening her knowledge of traditional techniques and Mexican textile heritage.

Today, she reinterprets those influences through a distinctly contemporary lens, creating works where repetition, texture, light, and shadow continually shift the viewer’s experience.

Between Structure & Softness

Torres’ work sits beautifully between art, craft, sculpture, and architecture. From a distance, her pieces command a space through pattern and form; up close, the extraordinary detail of their construction becomes apparent.

Each work is the result of an intensely hands-on, repetitive process, yet the finished sculptures feel remarkably fluid and alive. It is this balance - precision and movement, tradition and experimentation, softness and structure - that makes her work so compelling.

“You have the structure, but there are many things where you are free to do what you do.”
