Hidden Styles

Jason Hallman explores the dialogue between structure and spontaneity through richly layered mixed media works on panel.

His process is rooted in curiosity and experimentation - using unconventional tools such as screwdrivers, chisels, and brooms to sculpt texture and emotion.

Each piece becomes an excavation of material and meaning, revealing forms that feel both deliberate and instinctive, precise yet free.

Process as Play

For Hallman, creation is an act of play and risk. Strips of canvas, industrial scraps, and reclaimed materials become his vocabulary, shaped through rhythm, repetition, and chance. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s celebration of the familiar and Gerhard Richter’s experimental techniques, Hallman’s practice bridges abstraction and tactility.

His works are layered, sanded, and rebuilt - each mark a record of movement and decision, a reflection of the beauty that arises when control gives way to intuition.

A Life of Bold Curiosity

Hallman’s artistic philosophy is deeply influenced by his father, a professional gambler who taught him the thrill of taking risks and the importance of doing what you love.

That fearless outlook translates into every painting: vivid surfaces shaped by trust, instinct, and discovery. His art invites viewers to share in that same spirit of openness - to look beyond the visible and find meaning in the textures of chance, change, and transformation.

"I love cultivating and bringing beauty into everything I do. Being playful with the materials at hand- strips of canvas, a broom, a screwdriver - sparks my curiosity to experiment with unconventional methods."
